My daughter is 9 and she is about 3/4 of the way through OoP.  At 
dinner last night, we discussed the happenings so far.  She *was* 
disturbed by the lines-writing punishment (as was I); I would have 
been worried about her if she wasn't disturbed. She also thought that 
Harry should have told MM or AD, because (and I quote) "When a grown-
up does bad things to a kid, you have to tell another grownup that 
you trust.  It's not good to keep secrets like that."   I won't bore 
you with a recap of our discussion, but she recognized the political 
posturing, and the power-grubbing for what it was.  

She will not be pleased with James' behavior, I think she'll take it 
pretty much exactly the way Harry did in the book. 

Also, she knows someone is going to die and she said last night that 
it would make her very sad no matter who it is, "but please, please 
don't let it be Sirius" (I suddenly became very interested in my 
dinner plate at that point in our talk).
