Everything in this part of the Department of Mysteries is about
recording and archiving:
The first room is full of thousands of clocks stuck in a loop, each
ticking the same few seconds over and over again so that people in the
future can reach back to the time the clock preserves.
The Hall of Prophecy is a library of one-play-only audio recordings
awaiting for the prophesized to hear.
The Brains have "ribbons of moving images, like unraveling rolls of
film" which become "tentacles of thought". They store famous thoughts.
The Death Chamber in some way archives or stores death or the dead.
