I am pretty sure that James and Lily Potter worked in the Department of
Mysteries, and that they were indeed studying life, death, afterlife,
time, love, etc. In fact I think that Lily was studying Love Magic in
that Locked room we did not get to see into.
I think she knew exactly what she was doing when she put all her love &
compassion into Harry at the moment of her death, and that it was a
concious act of magic on her part. I am quite sure now that Harry will
make use of the veil in the Death Room in book 6 or 7 to speak to or to
actually visit the dead to gain knowledge of how to defeat Voldemort. I
also am inclined to think the best way to vanquish evil is to drown it
in a sea of love ;-)
So I'm looking forward to V being pushed into the Locked Room in book 7.
I just *know* he can't swim!
