Now me (mtwelovett)
I'm not of the opinion that the Potters and Longbottoms fought
Voldermort BECAUSE of the prophecy. If we take it for face value
(which I'm not sure is 100% correct) the prophecy says that the baby
being born is being born to ones who have "thrice defied him" (which
isn't necessarily "fought") if Voldermort is aware of this defiance,
then he is probably after them anyway BEFORE the prophecy had even
been stated. So if he was after them previously, he could be after
them now because of Harry and Neville, but I think there is more to it
than that. And remember it wasn't Voldie himself that did go after the
Longbottoms...but he did directly (so we assume anyway) go after the
Potters or at least Harry. We know for sure that the Longbottoms were
Aurors, but we still don't have confirmation on the jobs of the
Potters. But if they were in hiding with a secret keeper, they knew
Voldermort was after them, as to knowing about the prophecy, that is
anyone's guess...maybe it is a Dumbledore thing where he thought maybe
they were better off not knowing the specifics there, especially if it
wasn't guaranteed to be Harry at that point. (sounds like a question
Harry needs to ask Dumbledore... )
