(spoilers for OOP, and for Juliet Marillier too, if anyone here happens to be
reading her)

I believe both Harry and Neville are somehow necessary. Of course, the
TBAYers are going to kill me for this, since the idea comes from a completely
different book by a different author so here goes:
I read a book called "Child of the Prophecy" by Juliet Marillier a few years
ago, and there is a prophecy that the one to save the day will be someone
with "the mark of the raven". There is a young man, a talented leader, who
has a raven tattooed on his face, and everybody thinks it's him. There is also
a young woman, whom nobody thinks is good for much, who has a scar from
having been bitten by a raven when she was a kid. And as it turns out, BOTH
of them are the child of the prophecy, and each of them has something
important to do in order to save the world, etc.
So, I agree with you. I believe Neville is also marked in some way that
nobody knows about. And that the prophecy pertains to both boys. I think
each of them will have to do something important to beat Voldemort. JKR
wouldn't even have had Neville born at the right time, and mentioned in
relation to the prophecy, unless it's going to become relevant later. Just my
opinion, and with the caveat that I'm an enormous Neville fan.
