I agree. Poor Lupin. But, unfortunately, I'm sure he's used to
being alone by now. Bless 'im.
I noticed a nice balance between Lupin's temperment and Sirius and
Molly's. While Sirius is more distant and Molly too smothering for
Harry, Lupin seems to strike a nice balance in between. I think JKR
also put him there as a comfort for the readers knowing that Sirius
was going to be killed. As he tell Molly at the table in chapter
five "You're not the only person at this table who cares about
Harry."
I also noticed the way he greeted Harry at Privet Drive with a broad
smile, while Sirius seemed rather dismissive. Lupin also was the
first to jump in and tell Harry he was too young to join the order.
I noticed all these things, and more, on the first read through.
They seem more touching now that I'm reading them through the second
time.
Also, Lily and Lupin seem more alike while James and Sirius seem
more alike. Hmmm.....a lesson in calmness and not being judgmental
and rash. Harry needs to discover more things about his mother's
personality.
I think Lupin will be a wonderful friend/teacher to Harry. And
hopefully somewhat of a father figure. Let's just hope Wormtail and
his silver paw don't come into play. Damn rat!
Toad (Despite the tone of this post, I loved Sirius too. And, yup,
still crying.)
