Now me:
I agree, and there's also the scene in Umbridge's office, where Draco
witnesses Harry give his crypic warning to Snape, just after Snape
has insulted his father's ally Umbridge. It's not completely
implausible that Draco might connect that with the failure of the DEs
plot (depending on how much he could piece together afterwards)
On the other hand, maybe Snape is actually still on the side of evil
(whether of the Voldemort or Malfoy variety), and delayed his warning
to the Order in the hope that the DE plot would succeed. I'm still
not completely convinced by his role as a spy for Dumbledore; the
only reason for us to believe his loyalty is that Dumbledore trusts
him, and as we saw in this book, Dumbledore is not infallible...
