the same quote appears top of p246 US.

Their schedule [p225 US] includes "double Potions and double Defense 
against the Dark Arts". Double classes are believed to be twice as 
long and include two houses at once. Unfortunately while the 
Slytherins speak out in double potions class, if there is a second 
class in the room during DADA none of them speak up. The passage in 
Chapter 12 only has Gryffindors speaking up, leaving the double house 
theory inconclusive.
