Sirius, Lupin and Peter between them never suggest that Peter begged
for the role of
Secret Keeper, suggested that he be Secret Keeper or asked in any
way, shape or form for the role of Secret Keeper.
>>
Well, that's what makes a good spy, does it not? And we'd have to
assume Peter was a good spy, if he lasted a year giving information
to Voldemort about his three closest friends right under Dumbledoe's
crooked nose. So no, I don't see him asking. I see him having no
problems in accepting, though, when it was offered to him.

As you say, Sirius had a really good plan. Terrific. The only thing
it required was that Peter risk death and torture for his friends.
>>
Actually, it required Sirius risk the above for his friends(including
Peter), since he was the Bluff Secret Keeper and no one, except the
Potters, Black, and Pettigrew, knew who the real Secret Keeper was.
That is, until Pettigrew went and told Voldemort.
Pip!Squeak:
>>
Because, you see, Peter was weak, and talentless, and if Voldemort
had managed to Legilimens the identity of the Secret Keeper out of
the captured Sirius, Peter would have had about as much chance as a
snowball in Hell.
>>
But it sounds like, in OoP, that Sirius knows what Occlumency and
Ligilimency is(and why Harry needs to learn the former), so he knows
full well what Voldemort is capable of in that department.
Pip!Squeak:
>>Possibly he really did
feel he had genuinely no choice but to betray his friends and would
have been delighted if someone else was the Secret Keeper.>>
So...Peter didn't plan to turn in Lily and James, then? He was first
bullied by Sirius to be Secret-Keeper and then bullied by Voldemort
to betray them?
Well, that's fine and dandy, but a few holes are glaring at me. 1-
How did V-mort know Pettigrew was the Secret-Keeper? 2- Why was there
no sign of a struggle at Pettigrew's hide out? and 3- How does that
rather elaborate plan of framing Sirius get explained as being not
something Peter had thought up?
