In meeting Tonks we see that she can change hair colors, styles and
facial features just by screwing up her face and concentrating. She
says she is a "metamorhamagus" which is very rare.

Did anyone else think of Harry growing out his hair after the awful
haircut he got when he was little?

I had always thought that this hair-growing was a sign
that he had animagus potential but I think it may be an
indicator might be at least patially skilled as a metamorphamagus.

We know from some chat that JKR answered a question like "Will Harry
be an animagus like his father?" with something like "No, he will not
be an animagus like James." Key part--"like James" which at most
means he would not become a stag animagus. I took this to mean he
could be an animagus-- just a different form and I always held to the
idea he would indeed follow this path because of the foreshadowing
tale of his growing out that awful haircut. Now, I suppose, that
foreshadowing may only just be related to metamorhamagus and not an
animagus.

Any thoughts???

Hi there, Arya

Yes... the same exact thought occurred to me as well. In fact, I figured
that was the impetus for introducing Tonks now rather than say... book
six or seven where that particular magical gift would have had more
relevance. JKR has a pattern of introducing us to magical concepts
gradually (like polyjuice) so, I think that Harry probably has this
gift. The hair thing in PS/SS points right to it. I think that Tonks
may end up being a kind of role model/older friend/mentor for Harry. She
is Sirius's cousin... he probably shares her gift... she is a young, new
Auror (which Harry wants to be). She also plans on stopping by the
Dursley's during the summer to check in on Harry. Maybe we will see her
training/mentoring him in book six? I really like her. She is fun.
