The Veiled Archway - Glendalough

According to http://www.ireland.com/liveviews/  Tour Ireland - Glandalough takes its name from the Irish for Valley of the Two Lakes and was one of the monastic cities of early Christian Europe. The stone archway marks the entrance to this sanctuary where the veil between this world and the next was said to be almost transparent.

Perhaps, the JKR doesn't mean the archway to be just symbolic of death? Maybe it is meant to be a specific archway from a specific myth/legend?
