As I see it from what you said either Neville or Harry must die 
because of Voldemort. Both will die if he survives. Therefore it is 
possible his defeat won't come from Harry personally but from 
Wormtail because he has to make a decision between the two (LV or 
HP) and Harry has already spared his life so he owes him a debt.
