My 2 cents on this. If Grawp hadn't 'rescued' (and I use this term
lightly) them from the centaurs then they most likely would not have
gone to the MoM and Sirius probably would not be dead.
Now I used the word 'rescue' lightly because it seem as if Umbride
was physically hurt. If anything the centaurs just might have been
the straw that broke the camels back on what was obviously a
disturbed person. Plus, Ron, Ginny, Luna and Neville were on their
way to help them. Even Snape would have shown up eventually.
I found the whole Grawp story weak and agree with those who think
that Hagrid was irresponsible with the well being of Harry and
Hermione.
