Don't forget also that Umbridge sent the Dementors in the first 
place, so she would have been expecting magic and would have known 
what spell. Interestingly the Ministry didn't pick up on the Lumos 
spell that Harry cast before the Patronus - a sign that either 
Umbridge was specifically waiting for a Patronus from Harry, or that 
insignificant spells like Lumos are overlooked. That doesn't really 
tally up with CoS though, where Harry is threatened with expulsion 
for a mere hover charm.
