The examiner(s) collected the parchments with the students' answers.  The 
students were permitted to keep the questions for further study.  In the US, this 
is almost never done at the equivalent education level, but is frequently 
done at colleges.  It's been a veerrrrry long time since I took the SATs, so I 
don't recall if I was allowed to keep the test (question) booklet.
