I think JKR definitely uses names as both clues and red herrings, so
it's not OT. (Like the malleable name of Sirius *Black*: at first you
think the "Black" part is a clue because he's a mass murderer in PoA
and Black=Evil, but then he's HP's godfather so the name is ironic,
but then he's from a Dark Arts family so it fits again! A double
switchback!)
How about Looney's whole name though: Luna Lovegood. Trying to stay
PG, here, but that sounds like a porn name. What's up with that?
