Michael, I agree about JKR "nailing it." And I love the fact that she 
CHOOSE, as the author, to leave the thestrals for OOP. This is 
something for the theorists here to remember....

Regarding Snape, and that we shouldn't like him to much, because of 
what happens later... This could mean either he's worse than we 
thought, or better than we thought, or both. It doesn't imply, like 
some have guessed, that Snape's gonna turn out to be really really 
bad, a traitor. We could just as easily infer that he will die 
tragically and heroically.
