It strikes me that if Voldemort has always thought there is nothing worse than death, and that if it is the fear of death that makes someone become a ghost,
that LV will become a ghost if Harry kills him. I'm not sure how much of an improvement this would be.
This brings me back to Darrin's Harry must save Tom Riddle theory, and my own Harry is bound to LV theory. My thought is :
-- assuming Harry is bound to LV through both his scar and Harry's blood that resides in LV,
-- if Harry *chose* to walk through the veil,
-- then he might be able to carry Tom Riddle through with him to the other side despite Tom's fear of death.
I keep thinking about DD's comment in SS/PS about death just being the next adventure for the prepared mind (or words to that effect). Harry's choosing to walk through the veil also is in keeping with the concept of choice that JKR emphasizes. And it gets around the problem of those two dueling with evenly matched wands. Lastly, it could be construed that it fits the terms of the prophecy, takes out LV, and doesn't technically require Harry to commit murder.
