The following post has been snipped quite a bit to save space:

Now Me:

When Dumbledore is explaining everything to Harry he says "There is a
room in the Department of Mysteries...that is kept locked at all
times. It contains a force that is at once more wonderful and more
terrible than death, than human intelligence, than forces of nature."

If we were to place these labels with the rooms we have seen in the
DOM, the room with the veil and the arch is death, the brains is
human intelligence, and I'm not sure on the last one. Since ForceS
is plural, it might refer to more than one room with Time and Space
both being forces of nature. Dumbledore further states that the
force in the locked room is "the most mysterious of the many subjects
for study that reside there." I would take this, in conjunction with
Nick's comment of DoM studying death, to mean that all items in the
DoM are there for study, including the prophecies (though how they
study something they can't pick up, I still haven't worked out)
