Ron had in the first two books the wand from one of his two eldest
brothers. I am not sure right now if it was Charlie or Bill, but he
had Percy's rat, so I know it wasn't Percy's wand. In book 3 he got a
new wand, and still didn't much better.

On the other hand, I see the breaking of Neville's wand the way, that
he starts to move out of his father's shadow. I dislike Gran
Longbottom and I think, constantly telling Neville and everyone else
who wants to hear it (or maybe doesn't want to hear it), that Neville
is so much worse than his father and that he hasn't got the talent,
is nearly as cruel as what the Dursleys did with Harry. No wonder
Neville had no self confidence. I think the breaking of Franks wand
means, that Neville will come into his own. And I hope, he will find
his own way, and not necessarily follow his fathers footsteps.
