If there's anything that Rowling is consistent with in almost all
the books so far, it's that Harry will at some point discover that
he was wrong about something concerning Snape. He found that Snape
wasn't the real villain in Philosophers, that he was not trying to
poison Lupin in PoA and that he is on the side of the light in GoF.
It was time to find out that he had been telling Harry the truth
about his father in OotP.
I do find it hard to see James' noble nature in "Snape's worst
memory". The fact that James was trying to woo Lily does prevent me
from immediately seeing him as a valiant defender of muggleborns
everywgere. And considering that the ones reassuring Harry of James'
good nature are Black and Lupin, has little value considering that
they obviously participated in bullying Snape and still refuse to
feel any guilt about it.
