I have a hard time believing it simply because he was so enraged when he 
found him with the Pensive and that's when he stopped giving him Occlumency 
lessons. I don't think he would have been so out of control angry if he had 
meant for him to find it. Maybe he wouldn't have been nice about it, but I 
don't think he would have lost his temper the way he did if that were the 
case. If I remember correctly, he threw him out of his office. His quitting 
giving him the lessons was a direct result of that whole incident.
