That's a pretty good point. It's definitely what I thought of when I read 
that part. My guess would be that he was too distraught from Sirius' death 
to think that rationally about it. Also, it seems like he was feeling a lot 
of guilt but at the same time was really feeling the urge to blame everyone 
but himself. I think it's too painful for him at this point to realize all 
the things he really could have done differently. I think that's going to 
be the hardest thing about this death for him to face: the fact that it was 
completely preventable.
