OOP: Wizard Debt

Again, this probably has already been suggested, but:

SOMEONE overhead (part of) the prophecy.  SOMEONE knows who is 
expecting a child soon.  SOMEONE is ejected from the bar and runs to 
Voldie.  He promises to tell all if V. just goes after Harry 
(doesn't care about James) and leaves Lily alone.  Wizard debt (if 
I'm using the correct terminology) established.  V. kills James just 
to get him out of the way.  He tells Lily to stand aside, she 
won't.  The supremely evil git kills her anyway.  Uh oh.  He's 
crossed the wizard debt line.  Because of this, the very next spell 
he casts rebounds.  The consequences of his actions.  

Ok, but why wouldn't Dumbledore tell Harry about this.  I'm sure he 
would have figured that out by now.

And, who could have been the one to overhear.  Snape (which would 
confirm the Snape loves Lily theory.)  Did Peter head for V. or did 
V. head for Peter?  

How could SOMEONE first establish a debt about saving Lily without 
revealing who the baby is (so V. could not just take the info. and 
run without establishing the wizard debt)?????

Ah, magic at it's deepest.
