*We now know that
Snape is a member of the Order, and one of the things Sirius uses to
goad
Snape is that he's "Lucius' lap dog." So Snape is spending lots of
time
with Lucius, and apparently not enjoying it. If Snape hasn't returned
to DE
status as a spy, but is trying to "recruit" another Death Eater back
to the
fold, I don't understand why there's a need to kiss up to Lucius.
now me:
BECAUSE, as Harry stated so...eloquently, it's his job to find out
what Voldemort is telling his Death Eaters. Snape doesn't have to be
sitting at V's right hand to find that out--Lucius, I'm sure is happy
to gibber away about all the good times they're having and how strong
they're growing.
I'd also imagine that it's a heck of a lot easier for Severus to
block Lucius' prying mind than Voldemort's.
I've always suspected that Snape's mission at the end of GoF was NOT
to go to Voldemort himself, but to start to ingratiate himself into
the ranks of the DEs most likely starting with the bottom. If he WAS
able to jump right back into Lucius' lap (what does that tell you
about the supreme stupidity of both Voldemort and Malfoy?) than he's
just saven himself a few steps.
