I don't think they need to hear that from Snape. Molly could have 
told them how Harry was treated. She probably gave them all an 
earfull, Snape included.  I am wondering if forcing Harry to rely 
only on the inner protection of his mother's presence made  that 
magic stronger, and that's why Dumbledore didn't try to make the 
Dursleys treat Harry better.
