 How about this as a possibility:  Snape will finally be promoted to 
the DADA position.  During his career advice meeting, Professor 
McGonagall tells Harry that Snape only accepts students with 
an 'outstanding' into his NEWT class.  During the examinations, DADA 
was the only OWL on which he felt he would receive an 'outstanding.'  
I think this would be so interesting.
