This was my #1 question about the book; I am surprised it hasn't made
it onto the OOP FAQ. I don't think the answers in this thread quite
get there. I get the feeling that, after what happened at the MOM,
Voldemort is now decisively out of H's head, at least for the time
being. The contrast with Harry's reaction to DD on the two prior
occasions when their eyes met is just too great. All through this
conversation and after, in the wrapping up chapter, he seems unaware
of LV; whereas before he was "a kind of aerial that was tuned in to
tiny fluctuations in Voldemort's mood" (554US). Voldemort must be
feeling some strong emotions about his latest failure, but Harry
doesn't seem to be in physical pain as a result (does he? is memory
failing me?) I can only guess that the attempted merger at the MOM
somehow forced the issue and LV was blown clear of HP, and DD knows
it. And I don't get the feeling that Harry will be in the isolation
unit all "next" year (whenever that may be ;)).

So what happened at the MOM?
--surge of emotion. Many have said love; I would add remorse (or
conscience; something else that's beyond LV); and grief for another,
of course; and maybe a deep acceptance of the nature of death. I
think it's important that JKR did not *name* the emotion, just said
"emotion."
--recognition of error (? when did Harry realize he had been bamboozled?)

My 2k
Jane
who thinks the back of Harry's mind is as secure as it ever was
