Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but in GoF, the Weasley Twins are in their 6th year and state that they are going to turn 17 in April. We also know that Angelina, who is also a 6th year in GoF, turns 17 in the week before the Goblet feast. This means the majority of students must turn 17 DURING their 6th year and 16 during their 5th year as the year cut off date is somewhere prior to Halloween. MWPP and Snape are in their 5th year in OOP, not only this, they are at the END of their 5th year, we know this as they are taking their OWLs. This makes it very likely that all of them are now 16 (I say likely, not certain) and if not all of them then most of them would be 16. Therefore the memory *could* have been leading up to the prank.
Sorry to get LOONy on you but it's something that has been bugging me about all the posts on Snape's memory, is that everyone seems to be automatically presuming that MWPP and Snape are all 15 at the time when it is actually more likely that they are 16.

But that doesn't mean it couldn't have been leading up to Sirius dropping some kind of hint or directly telling Snape about the Willow. All you'd have to add would be an "at the next full moon, use a stick to prod... etc" or something a lot more subtle.
HOLLYDAZE!!! Who normally tries to stay out of the prank debates as she doesn't think we know enough about it yet.
