I think another poster said they didn't quite see the purpose of Tonks.

My view is that it's JKR's nod to hip young adults in Britain who dye their
hair pink and purple and such - a hip, laidback young woman as a refreshing
change to the somewhat frumpy wizards (except Bill Weasley - who evidently
is now seeing Fleur, one of the about 50% of my predictions that came true -
I still think I have a better rate than Sybill Trelawney :-/) we've seen so
far.

If this were a fanfic...a slightly R-rated fanfic...I would even postulate
Tonks as the laidback worldly slightly older woman who might relieve Harry
of his innocence and go on her merry way. :-)

However, I doubt JKR will do that. (Another of my 50% of predictions that
came true - all the minor stuff, alas, I got all the major stuff wrong - Cho
*was* Harry's first kiss - just earlier than I thought it would be.)

Another thing: people have been talking about what will become of 12
Grimmauld Place. I'd be surprised if Tonks doesn't inherit it. Black
*might* leave it to Harry - but he disliked it so much himself I almost
can't see him doing that to someone with no connection to the place. Tonks
is the daughter of Black's favorite cousin - so my guess is the lovely
Nymphadora will become the new mistress of 12 Grimmauld and that will just
wreck Kreacher's year.
