Lots of discussion has centered around how much of jerks Sirius and James were when they were younger. However, I want to defend them to some degree..

firstly I am going to assume (this is just an asssumption for James) that he and Sirius both grew up in wizarding families that were essentially well-off.

They never experienced what it was like to be an outsider when they were young (certainly Sirius has now, but I maintain that Sirius is not the jerky kid he once was) many children who are like this have this tendency to be cruel people. It's true and I know that almost all of those people grow up to regret it.

What we forget about Harry is that he was seperated from the wizarding world at a very young age. He grew up an outsider, no friends, and constantly feeling like he didn't belong. Thus, we see Harry grow into a compassionate young man, one that hates hurting people and making fun of people.

I know from personal experience that much of the way you were treated will depend on how you treat others. I knwo I was made of all the time as a child..and Like Harry I hate seeing people get hurt.

Just something to think about....but I just wanted t say...that if Harry had grown up a wizard, I daresay he may have developed into somebody much more similar to young James and Sirius
