I completely agree here. I don't think that JK Rowling would ever want to send the message that if things don't go your way, or if you lose someone important to you, you should kill yourself. While that may seem like a noble ending, it would just make Harry a coward. I think that it is significant that Harry is feeling borderline suicidal at the end of OoP (assumed from US pg 816 where he says, "Kill me now Dumbledore.") We are seeing Harry at his weakest. He can only get stronger. I think that the series will end with Harry conquoring his ghosts, not with him caving to pressure. I shudder to think of the children that would get the wrong impression from a "harry killing himself" ending. The message should be that one can live through anything; Harry killing Vmort and walking through the veil to be with his parents would be a *horrible* message to send to children that have lost loved ones of their own. Imagine all of the child suicides that would be blamed on Rowling.

On to the debate about whether or not Snape intended for Harry to view the thoughts in his pensieve. I don't think that there is any way that Snape would have any desire for Harry to see him so utterly humiliated. What an embarassing moment! I wouldn't want my closest friends to know about a memory such as that one, much less someone that I resented. Snape doesn't like to show his weaknesses. He is genuinely embarassed and mortified when Harry witnesses his dark secret.

Also, can somebody clarify for me what year Fred and George were in in OoP? You can email me off-list if you would like.
