I agree somewhat but we should be careful about how we view James, 
Sirius, Lupin and even Snape from how they appeared at 15. Cleary 
events in the intervening years from their school years to the 
formation of the Order had impacted on and influenced their 
characters. They also could recognise how young and foolish at 15 
they were when Sirius and Lupin discuss with Harry Snape's memory.

DD also makes James headboy so I imagine that his behavour improved 
quite quicky from this memory (I hope)
