Well, she could be a sister to the Lestrange that Bellatrix married,
or just a cousin of those Lestranges. We do clearly see that the
old "pure-blood" families seem to be all related.
I was trying to fit Molly in with a Camelot name and
besides "Genevieve" this was the only one I could remember...and
then "Le Fay" fit right in with "Lestrange". And "Molly" seems like a
good nickname if you're stuck with "Morgana Lestrange".
In some versions wasn't Morgana Arthur's half-sister? Ugh...this
could be carrying the "inbreeding" thing a bit far. But I seem to
recall that somewhere I read that Arthur had an affair with Morgana,
which would seem to mean that they weren't related or else it was
distant cousins. Again, Molly and Arthur probably are distantly
related, based on canon.
Now, the question then would be: Is Molly ESE? Because I never could
figure out whether Morgana was, either. Every version of the story
says something different. I think I remember that she was estranged
from some of her family, though. If Molly is a Lestrange
(and "Lestrange" sounds like "estranged", doesn't it?) and she's
_not_ ESE, it would make sense that we've heard about "Dad's cousin
who's an accountant" but never about Molly's family.
Of course, this all hinges on whether the Weasley family's names mean
anything at all, besides being typically English-sounding names.
