Maybe his refusal to continue Harry`s lessons were not so petty after 
all. This whole Occlumency thing and Snape as the one chosen to 
teach. It seems to me a no win situation for him. He takes a chance 
at pissing off V by teaching him to shut his mind to him on the the 
one hand,  on the other he takes the chance that Harry will glimpse 
something more than he`s let on about his true activities. 

There`s the comment Sirius makes re. DEs "It`s lifetime of service or 
death" and seeing as Snape is still alive leads me to believe that he 
is still in fact, counted among thier ranks. Especially given the 
ample amount of opportunities they would have to kill him as he does 
seem to leave the safety of Hogwarts to go to headquarters and the 
trip he did or did not make into the forest to look for Harry.
