It is a moot point but it is fun to speculate. I didn't really 
notice the passage at hand as indicative of Sirius being gay. What I 
did notice and found quite intriguing was later on, the description 
of how close friends he and James seem to be:

"Harry had the distinct impression that Sirius was the only one for 
whom James would have stopped showing off." There's also Sirius' and 
Remus' interraction in OotP which gives a married couple feeling. 
But perhaps that's me...

If I have my Greek correct it must be referring to burning animals 
and then having sex with them. Scary Californians...
