Thanks for the replies (Now I now where to come to get some 
answers :D)

I knew that Ron's old hand-me-down wand had a unicorn's hair in it, 
but I didn't realise that his new wand also had a unicorn hair core.  
I thought perhaps that since he didn't *choose* his first wand his 
second may have a different core (mind, there aren't *that* many 
cores to choose from ;) )

Is not the *wood* used in a wand is also important?  When Ollivander 
was describing the Potters' wands Lily's *willow* wand was good for 
charms and James' *mahogany* was good for transfiguration was he 
talking about the wood or the wood/core combinations (he never 
mentions the cores).
