According the Quidditch Through the Ages, it took 300 years from the
first observation of Quidditch (the 11th century) to the invention of
the Golden Snitch. So, it was invented at least 600 years ago, could be
as much as 700. This actually makes him about the same age as Nicolas
Flamel, so there's this very slim chance that they could have been
friends, and that Flamel shared some Elixir of Life with him. And who
knows how much elixir he had made before he destroyed the stone. 

I doubt we'll meet Bowman in the books, but at least there's a window
for fanfic authors out there.
