This is close to what I imagine. This is a day when no one in there
right mind would want to be outside. But Harry would rather be
outside than in the house with the Dursleys and whoever might be with
them. Or maybe he was ordered to weed the gardens and would be
scolded if he went in before the job was done. So he's taking a rest
or fainted. Fainting would explain being in the flower bed instead of
the grass.
