I am resonably new so I am not sure on the kind of theories you all 
may of come up with, but could it not work on the floo powder 
principles but with ships and water. Not floo powder but something 
that enables a ship to cover large distances very quickley, via water 
and not fire places. 

I know this is weak but the idea came right out of the top of my head.
