Several generations later, who's to say they're not a Muggle family?

I've always thought of it in terms of genetics being that magic 
seems to be coming from inside you of you.

It could be that this squib, while living in Muggle world, marries a 
muggle and the gene is carried on and on, until they marry into 
another person who had a magical family at some point.  Do you 
understand what I'm saying?

Maybe JKR will write a book on this and break it down for us.  She 
has already written a book on Quidditch and Fantastic Beasts.  Why 
not another on where magic comes from?

Greicy, who's now wondering if it could also have something to do 
with auras and personalities...hhhhmmmm....
