What could they know?
Exactly who tortured them. Can anyone say Lucius Malfoy was not one 
of them? 
After all, on (page 603, GoF, US) it says "Unfortunately, the 
Longbottoms' evidence was - given their condition - none too 
reliable."
So, Lucius might have been involved in the torturing of the 
Longbottoms', and now, to cover his own butt, he is making sure they 
never get out.
