I have always been of the opinion that when Dumbledore is speaking privately
to Harry, explaining one of the great mysteries of life, it is really JKR
speaking to the reader. Therefore one may assume that Dumbledore will never
lie to Harry when there is no one else present. If there is a third person
in the room, even Ron or Hermione, then there is always the possibility that
Dumbledore *might* "bend the truth".
To a true teacher, outright "black is white" lies are anathema.
