  Well, I don't know how it works in England, but here, in Spain, where I studied, students need to get a written permission by the parent or guardian to leave the school building, that means that if you have an accident or something of the sort, when in an outing, theachers and school governors (or whatever they are called in English) cannot be held responsible for it.
