Vera,
I went to a school where this indeed happened as well. This Prof. was
a nightmare. He taught Romantic Poetry. He was in the college when
my mother inlaw was a student (40 years ago) and he was old as well
as crabby then. I had him around 12 years ago. I think he finally
passed on about 3 years ago. He died of a brain tumor. The only way
the teacher left the school was in a body bag. Truth. He comes to
mind often when I read how Snape deals with his students. He had his
favorites (which I was never one of). I remember he once said "Miss
Blah blah, If I were you I would consider a different major, since
you cannot write in the English language. If I were you, I would
drop out completely."
Snape tenured? I don't think so. I don't think the Hogwarts
teachers need unions. Comical thought though!
I still believe that Snape is difficult to those who need him to be
difficult. These are the students who are up against the wall so to
speak. Neville, Harmione, Harry, Ron, and even occasionally Seamus.
