  I don't think that means or implies that Harry was indeed adopted, I think it's just a clue. Some of Voldemort's powers and probably deep knowledge transferred to Harry the night V tried to kill him. Maybe the name just rings a bell in some inconcious knowledge of his, or something of the sort.
