I think I can help - I breed and show Chows, which are in the same group as
the bulldog. Though you don't see it too often over here, there is a
totally acceptable tail on a bulldog which is about 4 or 5 inches long,
straight, and flat. Its quite ugly and looks somewhat like a paddle
sticking off of end of the dog. The first time I saw one like that, I asked
a friend who happened to be a bulldog breeder and judge, and he said that it
actually used to be far more common. But the short, screw tail has become
the norm. Anyway, I pictured the bulldog that belonged to AUnt Marge as
having one of these types of tails. It would stick straight out and
certainly be capable of being stepped on.
