Unfortunately, I disagree with this. I believe that Rita Skeeter has a
larger, darker role to play for several reasons.
1.  The character "Rita Skeeter" is based on JKR's perception of certain
members of             the media & the intrusion they have caused in her
life. Well, that's not gotten any better,
    has it?
2. A person who is cornered or forced into submission against their will
becomes                 more dangerous because of the resentment they feel
toward the persons causing                 the behavioral change. Just check
any prison.
3.  She is already disliked as a character, so who better to play a dark
role? Shades of         Draco & Lucius.
