I can't answer all of your auestions aswell. But what I know is that Harry herd his parents' voice for the first time when he was "attaced" by the dementors in PoA and not from the photographs in the album Hagrid gave him in the ending of PS/ SS. So this might be te clue that tey can't speak.

Yes, its right that people fear Photographs could take bits of their souls in some cultures, e.g. some muslims do. I think Kelly's idea fits well. 

Has anybody other clues that proove this or the opposite?
