I don't know about a workaholic but I will grant knowledgeaholic. My thinking 
goes like this: 

If Hermione is the smartest student in the school, why isn't she in 
Ravenclaw? 

She is in Gryffindor because of her bravery (or her choice to be brave).

Does that mean that she is braver than she is smart? And considering how 
smart she is, what does that say about her bravery?

And where will this lead in books 6 & 7?
